Skin Rejuvenation
There are numerous ways to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aging skin. Auburn Dermatology offers several chemical peels and Isolaz broad band light therapy for rejuvenation of the skin. We also offer photodynamic rejuvenation, where Levulan is used in combination with light, for more severe sun damage. Dr. Holmes will discuss with you advantages of each and treatments will be individualized depending on your skin type and skin problems.
Common areas treated include the face, neck, chest, forearms, and hands. Chemical peels and Isolaz improve the appearance and texture of the skin by fading brown spots, reducing sun damage, and by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Treatments also may improve the appearance of scars and are often used for the treatment of acne.
We currently offer several types of chemical peels:
1. Glycolic peels are fruit acids used in different strengths depending on the skin type and severity of damage. They stimulate the production of collagen in the skin, which will help firm the skin. They also exfoliate the skin, improve the texture, and fade brown spots. These are best for acne and mild to moderate sun damage. The best results are seen when glycolic peels are repeated once a month for 3 months.
2. Jessners peels and TCA (trichloracetic acid) peels are used for heavier sun damage.
3. VI Peel: We are the only dermatologist in Auburn offering the VI Peel. Dramatic results are seen in just 7 days! more information
It is very important that you wear sunscreen every day. The treatments may make your skin more sensitive and may make you more likely to sunburn. Also, the damage we reverse with a treatment may return or worsen with excessive sun exposure. Dr. Holmes recommends SPF 30 or higher every day. We recommend ELTA MD Sunscreens, available at Auburn Dermatology.
We also recommend restarting retinoids 5-7 days after the peel for maintenance of results.
